Yes, You heard me! GOOD sex (not mediocre sex) is good for your work performance, life performance and your overall mood. You notice that people are more receptive to you and what you have to say because there is a glow from within. Great sex in the morning is so underrated and sometime taken for granted. It’s a scientific fact that sex is ridiculously healthy for you. Sex produces a cascade of hormones and biological changes. When your body produces oxytocin and DHEA, amazing things happen. Oxytocin is a powerful hormone that acts as a neurotransmitter in the brain, responsible for social activity and plays a large role in your behavior. So just having sex increases the production of oxytocin and has also been linked to lowering the risk of breast cancer, increases in the heart rate which promotes heart health, production of infection- fighting antibodies and helps keep the vagina healthy…just to name a few of the benefits.
Relating to work performance, a two week study of 159 full-time employees was conducted over the course of two weeks. The study published in the Journal of Management showed that following the day after sex was reported, couples were 5% on average in a better mood at work , had increased engagement with peers and a higher sense of satisfaction. The mood boost is “likely a function of both dopamine and oxytocin triggered by sexual activity,” Keith Leavitt, PhD, study co-author and associate professor at Oregon State University, told Tonic. Additionally, “individuals report feeling a greater sense of self-control and focus the next day following sex,” he added.
In my experience, especially because I have a two year old who never sleeps in her own bed, I find that morning sex really gets my day started right. I have more tolerance for the bogusness of the day, I’m surprisingly more calm and have a ton more patience for things that would normally set me off. I also notice that in the early hours there are less interruptions with the phones, the baby, etc. Its a great way for my husband and I to connect with one another and get some quality, much needed one-on-one time. I love waking up in the morning and sneaking downstairs to try to get a quickie in before the little one gets up. Its not only fun but therapeutic.
